The capture of this image was meant for another purpose, with the intention of converting it to black and white and creating a digital negative for printing as a albumen print.
The resulting file both beautiful and dark captured my imagination in colour.
The image is from a body of work that seeks to explore the emotional response to dark spaces, this emotional response may manifest in many ways: for some, the unease when left alone in the dark; for others, the peace, quiet and tranquillity.
The image displays a place that may be familiar and welcoming in daylight hours, a place of many happy family memories, a picnic in the bush, the odour of burnt sausage and beer. The emotional response to the space when viewed in the darkness may not bring forth the same recollections for everyone.
The particular image, beautiful in it’s own right, will still be subject of alteration and printing as an albumen print – memories, thoughts and feelings are subjective, some of us dream in colour and some in black and white.
